Cr7 is the favourite for Ballon d'Or but Lionel Messi is still the best of all time - Gerard Pique

Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or but Lionel Messi will always be the greatest player of all time, according to Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique.
While Ronaldo won the Champions League and La Liga title last season with Real Madrid, Messi and Barca only won the Copa del Rey in a disappointing campaign by their high standards.

That contrast of emotions leaves Ronaldo the likely winner of the coveted Ballon d'Or trophy this year, with a triumph that would draw him level on Messi's record of being crowned the world's best player five times.

But Pique says history will remember his team-mate's football more fondly than that of the Real Madrid and Portugal superstar.
'Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Champions League and La Liga,' the centre back told to Qatari television. 'So he is a favourite.

'Lionel Messi is still considered the best player in history, though, and then there are other options.'
Meanwhile, the Spanish defender played down his rivalry with international colleague Sergio Ramos as the pair fight for honours at club level.

Pique does not see the repeated clashes between the centre back partners and their clubs as an issue 12 months before the World Cup in Russia.
'The rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona is very big. Ramos defends Real Madrid as I do with Barcelona,' he said.
'When we face we try to defend our colours and when we go with the Spanish national team we fight together.'
